Taking its name from the nautical landmark to the west of the entrance to Salcombe estuary, ‘Lantern Rock’ is a small batch gold rum, distilled and crafted at our waterside distillery in Salcombe.
Exceptionally smooth with layered complexity, ‘Lantern Rock’ is an outstanding small batch gold rum, with flavours of warm vanilla, mellow oak, hints of banana and a light chocolate finish.

Inspired by the 19th century Salcombe Fruit Schooners, which were famous for carrying fresh fruits and spices back from exotic lands, the locally built 19th century Salcombe Fruiters often ventured to the West Indies to acquire a much sweeter and more potent payload; sugar, molasses and rum.
In the tropical Caribbean heat, puncheons or hogsheads of rum were carefully stowed on board these ships and surrounded by coconuts to protect the precious cargo during their perilous journey back across the Atlantic.
Salcombe Rum ‘Lantern Rock’ has been lovingly handcrafted in small batches of 750 bottles, made up of a blend of 38l and 95l casks previously used for ageing bourbon. With gently fermented first-rate molasses, unrefined sugar and a blend of yeasts, it is distilled on traditional 60 litre hand beaten copper pot stills before being laid to rest in the oak barrels for 6 to 12 months.
Unlike most rums, Salcombe Rum ‘Lantern Rock’ has no sugar added after distillation, neither is it darkened with the addition of extra colouring. The result is an exceptionally sophisticated rum with an outstanding balance and spectrum of flavour.
