Our Victuallers Special Edition ‘Snapes Point Sloe & Damson Gin’ is back by popular demand. This year’s batch of exceptional sloe and damson gin has been slowly aged in 80-year-old Niepoort Colheita tawny port casks at our waterside distillery in Salcombe, and refreshed with a second pick of locally foraged sloes before bottling to provide fruity top notes.
The second steeping of this year’s fruit has developed a deeper and sweeter flavour than we have tasted in any of our previous batches.
Small batch. 50cl, 35% ABV.
To craft this year's batch of 'Snapes Point', we first crafted a unique gin that harnessed the natural sweetness of the fruits before steeping locally foraged sloes and damsons separately for two months. We then further distilled the damson spirit on 60-litre flame-fired copper stills to amplify the flavours.
The spirits were then carefully blended with Dartmoor water before being aged in the tawny port casks for over 3 years, picking up the sweet flavours from the casks. Finally, we added a second pick of new locally foraged sloes before bottling, to further elevate the flavours, giving a new lift to the fruity top notes.
This exclusive gin injects some winter warmth when sipped neat, or equally enjoyed served with plenty of ice, a premium Indian tonic water, and garnished with a slice of orange.
Inspired by the famous Salcombe Fruiters, which were locally built Schooner sailing vessels that carried their highly perishable cargo of fresh fruits and spices from around the world to England’s ports. The Victuallers Special Edition spirits reawaken a bygone era of adventure and trade.
Victuallers were merchant sailing vessels that carried fresh provisions to the fleet, accompanying them on long voyages around the world, to maintain the health of the sailors serving their country. Each of these special edition spirits have been lovingly handcrafted at our waterside distillery in Salcombe by our expert distillers, using only the finest ingredients sourced from around the world, carrying forth this unique spirit of adventure.
