This exceptional gin is inspired by the trading routes of the famous Salcombe Fruit Schooners, and showcases the exquisite citrus fruits and spices they once carried back to England’s ports. 

Distilled to the London Dry method, ‘Start Point’ is our multi-award winning, flagship gin. This classic citrus-led gin has refreshing notes of red grapefruit and earthy pine from Macedonian juniper. Famed for being exceptionally smooth, ‘Start Point’ is distinct and complex, yet extremely versatile.

Start point

Born of the sea and taken from the wind, our flagship gin is the product of ocean adventure. Crafted with an unrivalled passion, care and attention to detail, ‘Start Point’ is a celebration of life on and around the water.

Taking inspiration from the iconic ‘Start Point’ lighthouse which marked the start of the 19th century voyages of the Salcombe Fruit Schooners, ‘Start Point’s’ signature flavour pays homage to the citrus fruits and spices that the Schooners carried.

Every bottle of ‘Start Point' is distilled in the iconic coastal town of Salcombe, England at our waterside distillery, one of the world's only distilleries directly accessible by boat.

BOTANICALS
Inspired by taste, led by adventure

‘Start Point’ is distilled using 13 of the finest hand sourced botanicals from around the world, many of which have been traced back to the global maritime trading routes and cargoes once carried by the Salcombe Fruiters. Each of the botanicals we use has a story to tell, none are mass produced, all are traceable to their source and all are picked at their best. We are uncompromisingly fussy about their quality.

MACEDONIAN JUNIPER BERRIES, lemon, lime, RED GRAPEFRUIT, English coriander seeds, liquorice, CARDAMOM, cubeb berries, angelica root

Macedonian juniper berries are selected for their high limonene content and the fresh citrus peels of red grapefruit, lemon and lime are hand peeled each day prior to distillation. Of utmost importance and often overlooked in gin distillation is the quality of the water used for blending. We know that water plays an important part in creating our phenomenally smooth collection of gins which is why we blend our gins with Dartmoor water; some of the softest and purest water in England, sourced from high up in the wilds of Dartmoor National Park.

START POINT & TONIC
ingredients
  • 50ml Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’
  • 150ml Premium Indian tonic water
  • A slice of red grapefruit
method
  • Place plenty of ice in a large gin glass.

  • Add 50ml of Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’.
  • Top with 150ml of premium Indian tonic water.
  • Garnish with a slice of red grapefruit.
  • Gently stir and serve.
MARMAJITO
ingredients
  • 50ml Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’
  • 2 Barspoons of blood orange marmalade
  • 10ml Lemon juice
  • 10 Clapped mint leaves & a sprig of mint
  • Elderflower tonic water
  • Slice of blood orange or orange – depending on seasonality
method
  • Place the gin, blood orange marmalade, lemon juice and clapped mint leaves into a Boston shaker glass.
  • Top with ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
  • Fill a highball tumbler with ice.
  • Double strain the mixture into the highball tumbler.

  • Top with elderflower tonic water and garnish with the sprig of mint and slice of blood orange or orange.
PENNANT MARTINI
ingredients
  • 50ml Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’
  • 10ml Knightor Dry Vermouth
  • Red grapefruit 
method
  • Place lots of ice into a mixing glass.
  • Add the gin and vermouth.
  • Using a bar spoon, stir gently for 30 seconds.
  • Strain and pour into a chilled martini glass.

  • Garnish with a red grapefruit peel twist.
