Named after ‘Island Street’ where our waterside distillery sits nestled amongst traditional boatbuilders. This exceptional rum is our first commercial rum.
This transatlantic spiced gold rum is crafted by blending single estate gold rum produced in Salcombe with exotic rums and spices from the Caribbean. With notes of gingerbread cake, mince meat pie mix and underlying fresh pineapple on the palate, ‘Island Street’ is rich and warming.
50cl, 40% ABV.
Inspired by the famous Salcombe Fruit Schooners and the intrepid sailors who risked all in pursuit of returning with precious cargoes from around the globe. These handbuilt ships were the fastest ships of their day, with copper sheathed hulls and an ability to sail close to the wind, they carried cargos of highly perishable exotic fruits, pineapples and spices, along with puncheons or hogsheads of rum, across the Atlantic.
The first large scale cargo of pineapples arrived into the UK from the Bahamas in the 1820s, but the trade only started in earnest in the 1840s with the introduction of the Salcombe Fruit Schooners that could make the return passage in three to five weeks, knocking at least two weeks off the passage times of the 1820s.
The sailing vessels were fitted out with galleries and grid-like shelves, with plenty of space between the battens to allow fresh air to circulate between the precious pineapples and citrus fruits.
‘Island Street’ pays homage to our unique location and its ship building heritage to create a unique spirit, led by taste and inspired by adventure.
‘Island Street’ is a carefully balanced transatlantic spiced gold rum created by blending our single estate ‘Lantern Rock’ gold rum with hand sourced gold rums from Jamaica and the Dominican Republic along with a unique blend of spices specially selected by our Master Distiller, Jason Nickels including:
PINEAPPLE, ALLSPICE, CINNAMON.
We blend the three rums and the blend of spices together with Dartmoor water; some of the softest and purest water in England, sourced from high up in the wilds of Dartmoor National Park.
